2009 Nissan 370Z; rival of the Porsche Cayman S?
2009 Nissan 370Z: The new Z will be a "rocket?"
Quote:
While all the buzz at Nissan has recently centered on the GT-R, the Tokyo-based company has quietly been working on the next-generation Z.The overall shape and profile of the new Z will remain relatively unchanged. However, it will be slightly smaller than the current car.... The new power-to-weight ratio for the "370Z" will allow the car to reach 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds, and should give the Porsche Cayman S a run for its money around any racetrack.
Oh, and speaking of money, there are rumors that the price tag will also increase, probably north of the $35,000 mark. The 370Z will make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November and go on sale in the U.S. in early 2009.

Very ugly. Trust Nissan to screw up a very nice design. Looks like Nissan are copying the Hyundai "Coupe". What are those fangs for!

I think this is a photoshopped pic, this sure looks too ugly to be true!

Sorry, I forgot to add the link. They say the actual car will look very much like the current Z car. My guess is that the camera lense used was not the best to give the car its correct proportions. They were trying to highlights the new "fangs' on the front.

Yes. It will be a rival. And once tuners get the superchargers rolling they will be deadly on the street. Remains to be seen wether they will fit the car with brakes that can last more than a couple of laps on a track, though.
Should be a great car for the money.

It's ugly, it's a Nissan. Never liked the original either.
Yes, those who buy Porcshe for the brand kudos, most buyers around here-OC, CA, will never swap for a Nissan. Some absolute gear heads might if the performance proves to be comparible.

The first response to new Japanese competitor threads is always "it's ugly" shortly followed by "it's not German" or some variation of Brand X stinks.
350hp, 3000 lbs, proven platform, $35K...even if it needs a few mods to be track ready what street/track car doesn't?
Personally, I'm intrigued. If nothing else, more competition will force improvement by Porsche. Or else German cars will be relegated to the same place German performance motorcycles are...

I like the way it looks. Good on Nissan for pushing the styling beyond vanilla.
And lets see, 3000 lbs and 350 horses is a good combo for me. All that for $35k...

There are so many cars and SUV's for that matter that have 350 HP or more. If all we wanted was HP we would all own Vettes or some other American made sports car.You can Tune any car to get 350 to 400HP with enough $$$ Probally even a Ford Pinto wich in case looks similar in design to the 370Z .Take off your blinders .. Its UGLY and a redisgn is probally already in the works..

Hmmm, can't think of too many 3000lb cars with 350 horses. And definately can't think of a single 3k lb suv.
HP and lightweight are important to ME. Nothing is wrong with the Vette either.
To you = ugly. To me = neat looking. You can't satisfy everyone and that is part of the appeal. Don't forget that there are plenty of people that think Porsches look like frogs.
I am tired of cookie cutter cars (esp fwd sedans). I like this photochopped Z and I like the 2009 Maxima.

#2. you should know this one being a Porsche Owner.. Cayenne Turbo with its twin turbocharged and intercooled V8.
Packing 500 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque, this engine is a Teutonic tour de force with ample power to accelerate the 5,191-pound Cayenne to 60 mph in about five seconds and on to a factory-rated 171-mph top speed. Bragging rights to the world’s fastest SUV are part of the Cayenne Turbo’s portfolio of driving delights (although the Spyker D12 Peking to Paris could challenge that).
Geez.. More HP that 370Z and the GTR ...

I like the 350z, make it lighter and more powerful and it'll be great . The front now looks gimmicky.

You'll get no argument from me on the number of high powered SUVs, cars and trucks out there, but how many are anywhere near the under 3000 lb curb weight? Matter of fact, name some vehicles that have been updated/redone (not a simple facelift) that have lost weight.
Power is great, but lightness is greater (in my book). Hell, the next 911/Cayman/Boxster would make me happy if they kept the exact same power yet reduced the curb weights by 100, 200 or even 300 lbs.
Also, isn't the SRT-8 Cherokee faster than the Cayenne Turbo? I'm not too sure who has the fastest SUV. All I know is that I pull over when they are tailgating me.

I love my CS but I'm not blind to another good car. One of the pleasures that people get is taking a less expensive car and outperforming lets say a CS. Even if the performance is close, the car that cost the least would have bragging rights. This is a car that a none mod CS should respect and not challenge (taking the drivers out of the equation). Although I'm not looking to trade my CS for a 370Z, I will respect the car and I will take a closer look at it once it is out.

Former 350z owner. I would be very interested in this car if they start making it in Germany and Let porsche oversee the design and materials
In all seriousness though i respect nissan for attempting to correct what was wrong with the 350z. It was a pig on the road, way too heavy. I reserve my design critique for after i have seen it on the road but as far as the specs good for nissan.
I hope they fixed the brakes and the interior too. I went through brakes every 9k miles on a car that i downshifted every time with.
