Car washing banned- I am freaking out
We are in a drought situation and car washing at home has been banned by the city. No way in h--- I am going to auto bell. I have been going to self service car washes- frequented by thugs- at great personal danger- armed to the teeth- and spraying several cycles with rinse water only. Then I am going home and wetting a large microfiber towell and drying down with loads of Griots speed shine. This is really bothering me more than I care to admit. Any ideas??

I feel your pain!
Check out some of the body shops that specialize in Porsche’s.
I have two good shops that will hand wash for about $25
Looks like it is going to be a long haul before this drought is over. What the hell is up with lawn watering but no car washing?

I've used "No Rinse Wash" No Rinse Wash & Shine during the winter before and had good results. Try it out on your other car if you don't want to experiment on the Cayman. I was a doubter but it does work. It requires a couple of gal. of water (less on smaller cars).

What do you think about Sonus Carnuba spray instead of speed shine for this scenario? I am running out of Speed shine but have some unopened Sonus. I am sacred of scatching the paint. Would you pass and order the other stuff? Many thanks- feedback really appreciated!!

Sonus is great for "light dust" just like Speed shine. Sonus helps keep the P21S looking good between waxes since it is a carnauba based spray. The No Rinse is a real wash that gets off the dirt with only a bucket or two of water. I used it on the Audi all winter when I didn't want to brave the below zero temps and bother with heating up a hose.

I see your car is Basalt Black. (from the registry) If you look hard at BB it's going to scratch/swirl.
Think this out. Find a friend that lives off the beaten path and go over there to use his hose.
Wash at 4am! Don't mess up your car.

Already done that with a flashlight. If they see a wet driveway and a clean car they write you a 100.00-2000.00 ticket. Already caught my neighbor. Dont have to catch you in the act. I may opt for the local handwash shop reccomended by another poster. thanks

Park it on your lawn and wash it. You are just watering the lawn then!

Back in my med school days living in downtown Chicago, I had no place to wash my car. Between quick rinsedowns at the self-wash, I would drive 30 miles to my aunt's house in the suburbs to really wash my car and give it a good coat of wax.
Maybe you have a friend who lives in a nearby town/city where the laws aren't as stringent?

I remember seeing this post in a different thread. A bit of a stretch and it sounds kind of ridiculous, but someone has thought about your same situation...

we are in basically the same boat here in South Florida . they call it phase 3 water restriction . we cant water our lawns (everyones lawn in my neighborhood is dry and dead at this point )or wash cars ,etc. They only allow it one day a week ,on sundays from 4-6am or 5-7 pm i think . what i have been doing is getting up at about 5:30am and quickly washing my car on the lawn. that way there is no evidence on the driveway and the lawn gets a lil water.

They banned hose washing here in Denver and hired "Water Patrol" Guys to drive around and give tickets out to violators! Unbelievable. Wash it early Sunday morning with a bucket of water and use a Shamois to dry it up thats what I did and snuck under the radar.

We have a "water police task force" here as well. Guys riding around in trucks writing tickets. Totally ridiculious. When this thing started they had to catch you in the act. Then they changed the rules to any evidence such as a wet yard or driveway.A buddy washed his car at 10:00 PM on a day where lawn watering was allowed. Next morning he had aa 100.00 ticket in his mailbox . A neighbor had reported him. The thing about this that really ticks me off is that any other type of outdoor watering is allowed on certain days- except car washing.
A friend called me this morning. He found a loophole. Anyone who has a privately owned water well is exempt from the restriction. This may be a solution.

Watch out for well water. You might need to get one of those filters from Griot's Garage to get the calcium out. Calcium spots are a booger to remove.

I agree 100%. They'll let you water your lawn but you can't wash your car! how utterly ridiculous!!! and you can go down to Joe Blows Car Wash and they use twice the water. When the drought is over all this Water Police will get the axe.
