Re: Porsche Cayman Auto Lease Rates - January 2009
I found a new 2007 Boxster S no miles, 47k+. I was told that Porsche wouldn't lease a 2007.
With the seemingly great plug-in prices/cost options on the Porsche website, is it better to just go for an '08? And what should ballpark be for lease and or starting price? Is this fair?
Also, how much does tax, license, etc., etc., figure into what "out-the-door" actually is?
I'm in California. Really appreciate any guidance you may wish to give.

Re: Porsche Cayman Auto Lease Rates - January 2009
The retail is about 45K, hoping to get 40 or 42. If I put nothing down the lease on 42k is approx 432.00 if I did it right. Is that fair or a steal?
I really want the Cayman but the lease option is much more palatable.
And I may consider purchasing if the CU's offer something interesting.

You need some more information. Residual value, money factor, any fees and the final capitalized cost.

List is $62,000, selling for $48,000, with a residual of $24,737.
He said his residual percent was .39898.
The money factor was .00408.
With those numbers, I can't see it, even though he says it's a "new" 2007 Boxster S.
Thanks for your help. I screwed up the numbers before.

Re: Porsche Cayman Auto Lease Rates - January 2009
Here's the formula.
Lease Payment Calculation Formula:
(Cap Cost – Residual Value) / Term = Depreciation
(Cap Cost + Residual Value) X Money Factor = Interest
Depreciation + Interest = Base Monthly Payment
Terms Used in Lease Formula:
CAP COST = Vehicle Purchase Price (amount financed)
RESIDUAL VALUE = MSRP (window sticker) X Residual %
TERM = Length of Lease in Months (3 years = 36 months)
MONEY FACTOR = Similar to an Interest Rate
If you can't get the numbers to work, then they are not giving you true information.
Is PFS the lender?

Okay. I took out the earphones and stopped listening to a phonetic translation from a court reporter, petting kitty, etc.
Cap cost: $48,000
Residual: $62 x .3989 = 24,731. (close to their 24,737 figure)
Depreciation: $646
nterest: $296.
(at 10k a year I haven't added 3%)
The money factor is .00408.
Didn't tell me the lender. It's high, I think. If y0u can recommend someone reputable, both in pricing reality and service....tell me please.
And I apologize for my utter confusion. I guess I can no longer do 4 things at once.

This was a lot easier when I owned a 1959 356A Coupe. All I had to do is enter street concours and win!

Re: Porsche Cayman Auto Lease Rates - January 2009
I joined PenFed CU. They quote a 3.99 percent new car rate over the net and 4.99 if you do it over the phone. If anyone has any experience with them, I'd love to hear it.

Would a 2007, 1700 miles, triple black, tip be a good deal at 42,000? They're asking 47,900, but admitted they'd like to move it.
And thanks to anyone their advise on this purchase.

No experience with PenFed CU, sorry, you might try asking in the Northeast Regional forum since I assume PenFed means Pennsylvania, and maybe someone in that forum has used them.

I think it would depnd upon options. The 2009's are about to come out, so the 2007's are going to go from a 1 year old car to a 2 year old car in a matter of weeks and dealers with them should be open to more incentive to move them off their lots. Cars with tips are more rare than 6speed cars, but there are also fewer tiptronic buyers. I can't recall off the top of my head but did you try using the Porsche Buying Service in the Insiders section to see if any of our sponsors had deals on what you are looking for? Obviously it is a buyer's market right now, but if the dealer has 45K in the car they aren't going to want to take 42K, conversely if they have 38 or 40 in it, you can probably get it for 42, heck maybe even for 40 just so they can move it. Realize, of course, that the moment you buy it, it depreciates.

PenFed is the Pentagon Federal Credit Union. They have various categories to join. Doesn't seem stringent on membership. I didn't fit any category until I mentioned service and disability pension. We'll see. Still wonder if that 42k would be a fair price for the 2007 BS.
